At what point in your life did you consider yourself a feminist? Was it an event or a process?
I was always a feminist, having grown up with a feminist mother birthed from the annuls of the historic sixties waves, and riotous rebel-girl cousins of the punk era. It is not what defines me, it is a part of myself, and that extends to LGBTQ rights and issues, and intersectionality.
Who most influenced your awareness of your feminism?
Musicians. Music speaks on so many levels, from Joni Mitchell, Patti Smith, all the way to Brooke Candy. Musicians use song and speech, feeling and fervor, to transpose messages across boundaries.
In what ways has your feminism informed your life choices?
I do not take kindly to being, and never have, told what I can and cannot do.
In what ways do you share your feminism with others?
Through artwork, my LGBTQ-centric novels and short stories, and through speech and education.
Describe your vision of a feminist world.
Its is a world where men feel they can be vulnerable, where the machismo social posturing of genders if reflective of what they want to be and not who they are forced to be. Where a LGBT main character can decimate all stereotypes, where my future lineage will feel safe to be themselves irregardless of what gender identity or sexuality they hold. Locally, where its common to be who you are, within yourself. Nationally, where we don't have fascism holding the reigns to our country. Globally where women, POC, and LGBTQ persons are not threatened with loss of limb or life.
How I Define Feminism:
Believing that all are equal inherently and deserve the same chances and opportunities in life, irregardless of what they look like, the color of their skin, their gender, religion, or otherwise.
