At what point in your life did you consider yourself a feminist? Was it an event or a process?
I was born and brought up in India. I don't remember a particular event which triggered My Feminist soul. It was a living and breathing life struggling between my soul seeking freedom and societal rules forcing to be the YES GIRL. Gradually, from school to college to corporate every step of life fuelled more to the fire of Feminism every single day.
Who most influenced your awareness of your feminism?
My environment, My sisters, Aunts, Friends, Neighbors and many more around me even if they lived miles away always influenced every thought and every step. Wherever I would go, My soul would call out loud that "WHY? WHY ARE WE WOMEN TRAPPED IN THIS SELF OR SOCIETAL CREATED FAKE TRAP WHERE WE ARE FED LOW SELF ESTEEM AND NO DREAMS" . My soul never wanted to compromise with my environment and I was always the odd one out. Gradually, I stepped out of my small town to metropolitan city to USA . People I met in my journey everyone influenced and shaped my feminisim. My fight to marry the man I love or travel abroad. Every decision was a struggle and a battle won.
In what ways has your feminism informed your life choices?
All my Life decisions and choices revolve around equality. Be it personal or professional. At every step of my life, I ensure that I be a shoulder and become a shoulder to women around me. I don't hesitate in asking what is rightfully mine by being on the table.
In what ways do you share your feminism with others?
My Friends, Family, colleagues are the first ones I support and encourage. But, we need a girl's chain hand in hand across the globe to spread our hand of love and support. For the Love and courage to spread I chose to write to share my feminism with the world.
Describe your vision of a feminist world.
My vision for a Perfect Feminist world would be:
Where No girl have to think twice before taking any step of her life that she would be judged. Where No Family looks forward to have a baby boy instead of a baby girl.
Where No girl have to change herself, her identity, her lifestyle, her career just because she got married.
Where No girl have the fear of getting Raped when she steps out of the house anytime of the day or night.
Where All the women are paid equally to Men for the equal work done. Where All the girls can live and breathe the air of PURE FREEDOM.
How I Define Feminism:
Freedom and Equality to live on this planet created for Men and Women Equally and not just for Men to dictate living terms and conditions to Females in the house.
I am not a feminist but pro-feminism. I thrust for equality but don't believe women are better than men. We are equal.
My articles have been published with Huffington Post, National Geographic Magazine, TIME Magazine and several other online portals. I am currently associated with several NGO's in India to empower girls and protect women from violence.
